Proactive Approach

We believe in a minimalist, proactive philosophy about water chemistry. Being “proactive” instead of “reactive” saves you in maintenance costs. It is always significantly cheaper to prevent a problem than it is to fix a problem.

What’s Included

Proper chemical care protects your investment and safeguards your family, pets, and friends. Our proactive approach includes four focus areas that keep your pool safe for swimming, looking beautiful, and ensures optimal operating conditions:

  1. LSI Balance and Calcium Management
  2. Carbon / Organic (bather waste) management
  3. Phosphate Removal
  4. Minimal Cyanuric Acid (CYA, or stabilizer)

LSI Balance and Calcium Management

Calcium is NOT your enemy! It is actually your best friend. Yes! Calcium does fantastic things for water chemistry and helps pool owners and operators balance their pools according to the LSI. The LSI (Langelier Saturation Index) calculates calcium carbonate (CaCO3) saturation in water. Too much can lead to calcium falling out of solution as scale. Too little means your water is aggressive and looking for calcium to consume. This is the cause of etching, corroded pool equipment, and many other problems. When the pool is adequately balanced with calcium, other water chemistry factors become easy to manage.

Carbon / Organic (bather waste) management

Bather waste. Non-Living Organics. Carbon-based crud. Body Butter. People have different names for organic waste in the water, but here’s what you need to know: you need to manage it. If you do nothing, chlorine itself will try to oxidize the organics out of the water…and that’s great…except chlorine is not a very efficient oxidizer of organics. Chlorine is an excellent sanitizer and disinfectant, yet over 80% of its job in swimming pools is the oxidation of bather waste. We use enzymes to break down non-living organics and devour them. Enzymes can help do the heavy lifting, so chlorine is free to do what it does best: sanitize.

Phosphate Removal

Phosphates. The invisible common denominator behind many pool problems, elevated chlorine demand and sometimes even cloudy water. Phosphates seem to have come out of nowhere in the past decade. Why? Because water treatment practices now include a phosphate-based sequestering agent in drinking water. The sequestering agent helps protect the infrastructure from scale and corrosion, but it means phosphates are in the tap water. Water also tends to have high phosphates, and phosphates can be introduced naturally from the weather and other elements around the pool. Removing phosphates can significantly improve water quality and sanitizer efficiency in the process.

Minimal Cyanuric Acid (CYA, or stabilizer)

CYA is short for Cyanuric Acid–also called conditioner or stabilizer. CYA protects chlorine from sunlight since direct sunlight can break down chlorine in a matter of hours. We ensure your pool maintains the right amount of CYA because it has excellent sunlight protection for chlorine. Over-stabilization is a problem. Sanitization and oxidation are affected, as is testing water itself. With high stabilizers, maintaining an adequate chlorine residual becomes nearly impossible. The proactive strategy is to never let CYA accumulate too much in the first place. We ensure your pool keeps CYA at a minimum to protect its chlorine from breaking down in direct sunlight.
